Luminary Books, previously known as Shelby's Book Shoppe and Eddy St. Book Exchange, is a charming independent bookstore nestled in Gardnerville, Nevada, close to the stunning Lake Tahoe.

This beloved local gem has been a part of the community for nearly two decades, with different names and owners gracing Highway 395.

The story began in 2005 when Linda Finch founded the store as Eddy St. Book Exchange. As we grew, we made moves next to 88 Cups and transitioned into Shelby's Book Shoppe, named after the legendary pup Shelby. In 2020, Bethany Frediani took the reins with her furry companion Sirius Black. Fast forward to 2022, we proudly became Luminary Books and shifted to our new home at the old Record-Courier Center on 395.

In September 2023, the bookstore found a new guardian angel in Marissa Mills, a book enthusiast from Carson Valley. Her passion for all things books will ensure that Luminary Books continues to be a beacon of literary magic for years to come!

The building that now houses Cottonwood Creek Gifts was built for the Carson Valley Drug Store by John Ellis of the Minden Mercantile in 1959 for the operators of the drug store in the Merc, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rahnke. In 1963, the pharmacy was sold to Jim and Jane Stratton. The Strattons operated the pharmacy until 1977 until they moved to a new location in Gardnerville.

Minden Mill Distilling, located at 1601 Water St, Minden, NV 89423, USA, is a small craft distillery known for its premium handcrafted spirits. The building that Schat's Bakery now occupies started as Minden Dry Goods. Opened in 1910 by Chris Christoffersen, the store was the first of its kind in Minden. Besides dry goods they sold clothing, shoes, and cameras. Later, the store became Town and Country under the management of Tom Andrews. The C.O.D. Garage purchased the building in 1975 and created Pioneer Motor Parts.

Schat's Bakery and Restaurant opened their Minden location in 2020 to serve the community delicious baked goods and lunch items.

The Corner Bar building started its life as the Farmer's Bank of Carson Valley in 1909. In 1918, the bank moved to larger quarters across the street and from 1919 - 1974 the Minden Post Office took over the building. Today, the Corner Bar is a watering hole for those exploring historic downtown Minden, enjoying the Esmeralda Farmer's Market, or attending one of the many community events.
